Survey says Schaumburg among nation's best for using technology

Schaumburg ranks fourth in the nation among towns with a population under 75,000 when it comes to using technology to improve services, enhance transparency and encourage citizen engagement, according to the 2016 Digital Cities Survey.

"The village has always maintained a commitment to using and developing new tools that will provide a better user experience for our customers," Schaumburg Director of Information Technology Peter Schaak said. "The village will continue to seek ways in which we can improve our interactions with residents, businesses and visitors."

The village's technology achievements this year include: redesigning its website with improved navigation and transparency; introducing a police department dashboard application that easily tracks statistics, case updates and compiles critical information; and implementing a new rental property information application that pulls data from a variety of departments for proactive management of the condition and compliance of rental properties within the village.

"I am proud of the progress our Information Technology Department has achieved to make our day-to-day operations easier and more efficient for the people we serve," Mayor Al Larson said. "The advent of technology has changed the way we do business and interact with people; I'm pleased the village is being recognized for its accomplishments."

Schaumburg is the only municipality in Illinois to make any of Digital Cities' top 10 lists.
