Schaumburg A.M. Rotary donates new winter coats to kids in need

Schaumburg AM Rotary obtained matching grant funds through the Rotary District 6440 Simplified Grant Program that made it possible for the club to donate more than 100 brand new winter coats to children from high risk environments whose families utilize services provided by the Marletta Darnall Schaumburg Child + Family Center which is a Children's Home + Aid facility. A gift of a new piece of clothing is empowering in a way that a used, second hand piece of clothing never will be.

The Schaumburg Center is a federally funded "Early Head Start" facility that provides community based programs to enhance the development of very young children, promote healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women, and promote healthy family functioning.

Early Head Start programs offered through Children's Home + Aid provide a variety of services to low-income families in the areas of education and early childhood care and development; medical, dental and mental health; nutrition; and parent education.

Poverty impedes a child's ability to learn. A new winter coat does more than just provide warmth. It improves a child's self-confidence, peer acceptance, school attendance and overall wellness, all of which promotes school readiness and contributes to the child's well-being and future academic and social success in life.

Coats were USA made and obtained through Operation Warm.

Schaumburg A.M. Rotary meets Wednesday mornings from 7:00 - 8:30 a.m. at Schaumburg's Egg Harbor Café located at 1310 American Lane. Rotarians participate in community service projects both at home and abroad and work to promote good will, peace and understanding. Inquiries regarding membership are welcome.
