Voters overwhelmingly reject Dist. 15 building plan

Palatine Elementary School District 15's $130 million bond issue plan has been soundly defeated, according to unofficial election results. With all 76 precincts reporting, 33,055 people voted no, 70.6 percent of all votes cast, while only 13,741 voted yes on the request for funds to build two new schools. Full story.

Former Democratic U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider won back the 10th House District seat Tuesday, unseating Republican Bob Dold. Schneider was leading 147,299 to 133,383 Tuesday night, unofficial vote totals showed. Full story.

Park Ridge rally for Clinton turns to gloom

At 7 p.m., balloons and banners were put up, champagne was put out and dozens of backers of Park Ridge's native daughter Hillary Clinton settled in for a rally meant to honor her election as the nation's first female president. Pedestrian struck and killed in Beach Park

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday evening in Beach Park. Lake County sheriff's police responded to Sheridan and Beach roads just before 7:39 p.m., Detective Chris Covelli said. Full story.

Dist. 220 pushes back start times

Barrington High School students will begin their school day 70 minutes later next year under a schedule approved by the Barrington Area Unit School District 220 board Tuesday night. Middle-school students also will start classes later. Full story.

Dogs die in Libertyville fire

Three dogs died in a house fire Tuesday afternoon in Libertyville. Firefighters were called to the single-family home just after noon on the 400 block of West Lincoln Avenue, Libertyville Assistant Fire Chief Robert Key said. Full story.
