Dogs die in Libertyville fire

Three dogs died in a house fire Tuesday afternoon in Libertyville, fire officials said.

Firefighters were called to the single-family home just after noon on the 400 block of West Lincoln Avenue, Libertyville Assistant Fire Chief Robert Key said. The home's owner arrived to discover the blaze, which was extinguished quickly, he said.

Two-story home was damaged heavily by smoke and left uninhabitable, he said.

"(The dogs) were overcome by the smoke," Key said.

Firefighters from Countryside, Mundelein, Newport, Buffalo Grove, and Lake Villa assisted.
