Addison man gets 10 years for drug sale

A 23-year-old Addison man was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison for selling cocaine to an undercover police officer on multiple occasions, authorities said.

Alfonso Rodriguez was found guilty in August of three counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. The offense is a Class X felony because the sale occurred within 1,000 feet of a school on one occasion and within 1,000 feet of a park on another.

DuPage County Judge Daniel Guerin handed down the sentence, which will be served at 50 percent.

Rodriguez previously was in prison for unlawful sale/delivery of a firearm and aggravated battery and was on mandatory supervised release on those charges when he was arrested this time.

"Today's sentencing sends the message that law enforcement will continue our fight against all illegal narcotics," DuPage State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.
