Knock off politics: Call a bonus a bonus
Who is Mr. McMahon trying to kid with his mumbo jumbo explanation about paying out year end bonuses?
Saying, "They are lump-sum salary payments that come at the end of the year" is nonsense. What employee accepts a position not knowing what the yearly salary is?
I can hear that conversation now. "Your salary is $65,000 per year but maybe more because I might pay you a lump sum salary at year's end." I would think that his attorney's are smarter than taking a job where the salary is unknown when they accept it.
Sorry, but what you are paying at the end of the year is a bonus for work performed. Raises come out of the next fiscal year budget and if you have money to give out raises at the end of the year, you are mishandling tax payer funds that should have been returned or not even asked for, and you are running a scam on your employees.
That almost sounds like a labor law violation somehow, working for an unknown salary. And, it sure must make budgeting an extremely difficult exercise for the board when money asked for raises sits for the year and may or may not be given out. So let's call a bonus a bonus and knock of the political nonsense.
