Oakton celebrates Veterans Day with play exploring the world of female soldiers

A free performance of Rivendell Theatre Ensemble's acclaimed play, "Women at War," which focuses on females serving on the front lines in the military, is at 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, at Oakton Community College's Footlik Theater, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.

Written from first-person interviews with women who have risked their lives in battle, "Women at War" is the result of four years of intensive research and development. Working closely with female veterans and their organizations, playwright Megan Carney explores the multifaceted world of female soldiers - from enlistment to deployment to the often complicated return home.

Rivendell Theatre Ensemble is a professional acting company committed to recognizing and cultivating the talents of women in theater. Formed in 1994, the ensemble offers female artists a creative opportunity to nurture and develop their craft by producing plays from a unique perspective.

"Women at War" is sponsored by Oakton Women's and Gender Studies and Oakton Performing Arts Society.
