Psychological toll, but sweet victory

The Chicago Cubs have won the World Series. However it almost had to be fate that the Cubs could only win the World Series after running the gauntlet of mental torment. It simply had to go seven games. They had to be down 3-1. They had to have a lead that evaporated with only four outs to go and it had to come at the hands of their "closer." There had to be a rain delay. It had to go extra innings. They had to go up 2 but give back 1. They had to walk someone before facing their last batter. No other path was possible. Whatever sins were committed in a prior life by someone (maybe Wrigley is built over ancient burial grounds or something), this was the price to be paid. No game ever took a greater psychological toll on the fans. However, victory is all the sweeter. It ain't no dream the Cubs DID win the World Series!
