Take a hard look at whom your voting for

When Peter Roskam narrowly won his first Congressional race to become my House representative, he declared his first priority was to assure the $7.25 minimum wage was not raised.

Eight years later, he has never responded to my pleas to allow the minimum wage to be increased so that hard working citizens can rise out of poverty.

Roskam ignored my emails when I urged him to stand up to the House Freedom Caucus; he stood aside and let them shut down our government. I understand why he doesn't respond to my urgent requests to support background checks on all gun purchases - the powerful NRA endorses Roskam.

Roskam doesn't reply when I plead for action against the exorbitant prescription drug costs we seniors face. Roskam voted against the Medicare Prescription Drug Price Negotiation Act - it's not surprising that pharmaceutical companies are one of the top donors to his leadership PAC.

I heard nothing from Roskam when I asked why he left for the Congressional recess this summer without passing the GOP sponsored gun and anti-terrorism bill and why, before the mosquito season allowed the terrible Zika virus to spread, the bill to battle it was not passed.

I didn't expect a reply when I urged Roskam to place his country before his party and denounce the Republican "standard-bearer," presidential nominee Donald Trump. Roskam began his political career as a legislative aide to convicted money launder Tom Delay; he's learned to fall into line behind domineering party leaders.

I am ignored and abandoned by my representative in the House, Peter Roskam. Constituents must demand attention and action on the issues most important to our country's future. Before heading to the voting booth, please take a hard look at the history and actions of the person you are voting for.
