Water Street Studios to feature 'Dystopian Creations'

Water Street Studios Main Gallery brings the works of two established Chicago-area artists, Mary Ellen Croteau and Jackie Moses, together in an exhibition titled "Dystopian Creations," opening Friday, Nov. 11.

Croteau works with non-recycled plastic waste, in an effort to demonstrate the huge amounts of trash we are consuming and sending into the environment.

She said, "My art is about looking at things in a slightly different way, and is intended to undermine the status quo with wit and humor."

Moses' paintings are a combination of photographic transfers and oil on canvas with images derived from her travels to countries that have been affected by technological developments and population growth.

Her works project her view for the future. She said, "We have all been affected by global changes, some more than others."

The exhibit will open at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 and continue until Dec. 4.

Local artist Lesley Jackson will be exhibiting some of her autobiographical oil paintings at the Kane County Chronicle gallery, on the second floor at Water Street Studios. Her show is titled, "Life is Difficult and Unforeseeable Obstacles."

Opening reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11. There will be live music and a cash bar.

The show will be on view during regular gallery hours: 1 to 9 p.m. Friday; and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the art gallery, 160 S. Water Street in Batavia.
