Funeral set for Oklahoma man killed in Afghanistan attack
McALESTER, Okla. (AP) - Funeral services are scheduled for a McAlester man who was killed with a U.S. soldier in an attack in Afghanistan.
The McAlester Army Ammunition plant says services for 40-year-old Michael Sauro will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory in McAlester. Burial will be in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania.
Sauro was a civilian employee of the Defense Ammunition Center who died Oct. 19 with 26-year-old Army Sgt. Douglas Riney of Fairview, Illinois, of wounds from enemy forces in Kabul. Two other U.S. civilians from the Defense Ammunition Center were injured.
Sauro had traveled to Afghanistan last month for his third deployment and was scheduled to return to the U.S. in March.
The victims were part of a NATO mission to train and advise Afghan security forces.
