Ministry in Guatemala promotes long-term solutions

In 2008, John and Judy Prim of Schaumburg implemented their vision to fight poverty in Guatemala by equipping adolescent girls to become responsible adults.

One Hope Ministries is opening doors to educational opportunities, access to technology, and biblical and life skills instruction, enabling the girls to achieve success and contribute to the Guatemalan society.

One Hope Ministries is a nonprofit organization established in Illinois and funded by individual and church donations.

According to Judy Prim, ministry director, "At One Hope Ministries, we are looking at the entire picture - the spiritual and physical problems affecting the people of Guatemala and working to promote long-term solutions.

"As a residential program, we work with the individual, walking with them through the process of breaking the cycle of poverty. The ministry provides a 'hand up' instead of a 'hand out.' The girls must earn their scholarship for each preceding year. Most of our girls have been with us for years."

Join for One Hope Ministries' ninth annual benefit dinner, which will feature food, auctions, raffle, and a presentation by the Prims to provide guests an opportunity to learn about the adventure, challenges and progress of the ministry.

All proceeds from the evening will support the educational program, unless you specify differently.

One Hope Ministries' ninth annual benefit dinner will be at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Chandler's Chophouse, Grille & Banquets, 401 N. Roselle Road, Schaumburg.

Tickets can be purchased for $35 per person. Seating is limited, so get your tickets early.

The evening event is open to the public, designed to raise awareness in the community regarding long-term solutions to fight poverty in Guatemala.
