Girls volleyball: Palatine, Fremd still tied in MSL West

On a special "Spike Out Cancer" fundraising night, host Palatine remained in a tied for first in the Mid-Suburban West girls volleyball standings.

The Pirates received 9 kills from Rhode Island bound Claire Chaplinsky and 11 digs from Memphis recruit Alyssa Kronberg in a 25-14, 25-21 win over Schaumburg.

It was the fourth annual fundraising match dedicated to all men and women who have been touched by cancer with hopes that the devastating disease will one day be cured.

Palatine (19-4, 8-1) is tied with Fremd (14-7, 8-1) and they will settle the championship on Thursday when they meet on the Vikings' floor at 6 p.m.

Haley Holz added 7 kills for Palatine followed by Brooke Bauer (4), Beverly Ryan (4) and Corey Rinella (3).

Chaplinsky was also 18-of-18 serving with 4 aces while Sydney Christiansen directed the attack (66-66, 28 assists). Ryan led with 2 blocks.

Schaumburg (10-12, 3-6) was paced on attack by Mallory Gerber (6 kills), Morgan Sterrett (4) and Julia Spiteli (4). Jordyn Harberts handed out 21 assists and Gabby Paelmo collected 16 digs and 13 passes.

Fremd d. Hoffman Estates: Visiting Fremd (14-7, 8-1) maintained its share of first place in the MSL West with a 25-14, 25-23 win as Sara Ganas (8 kills), Jenny Miller (4) and Hope Yates (3) led the attack set by Natalie Freund (6 assist) and Sarah Straup (11 assists).

Senior Natalie Pethes (3 kills), senior middle blocker Hanna Saurbier and Jessica Jurewicz each had 3 kills for Hoffman Estates (2-25, 0-9).

Barrington d. Conant: Gabby Morris (10 kills) Cecilia Stack (7 kills), Andi Capel (8 kills, 16 digs) and Chloe Layton (12 assists) helped lead host Barrington (10-12, 6-3) to a. 21-25, 25-12, 25-11 victory in the MSL West.

Conant (9-13, 2-6) was led by Yuri Hara (5 kills, 11 digs), Jorie Wachal (4 kills), Kristina Loznjakovic (11 assists, 7 digs, 4 kills), Michaela Vasalos (9 digs, 4 kills), Bri Wilkens (7 digs, 4 kills) and Ania Baker (4 blocks, 4 kills).

Buffalo Grove d. Elk Grove: Host Buffalo Grove (3-15, 1-7) received 8 kills from Kanella Kalyviaris and 5 from Nadia Tarasova in a 25-20, 26-24 win over Elk Grove (4-19, 0-8) in the MSL East.

Lindsey Prommer and Kim Barton each added 3 kills for the Bison while Hannah Schuler handed out 17 assists. Kiarra Akiyoshi recorded 12 digs while Prommer, Tarasova and Barton each had 3 kills.

Leyden d. Hinsdale Central: Hinsdale Central posted a 27-25, 258 26 win over Leyden which was led by senior setter Autumn McGee (6 kills), senior middle hitter Jennifer Parker (5 kills), senior libero Kamila Zieba (4 aces, 15 digs) and senior middle hitter Natalie Payne (5 kills).
