We should recall, honor spirit of Gandhi
Sunday, Oct. 2, marked the birthday of social justice icon Mahatma Gandhi, who was the patriarch of human rights, nonviolence, religious conciliation and compassion for all people and all creatures. Gandhi was a humane and peaceful vegetarian who inspired many great leaders including Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela and Cesar Chavez.
To commemorate Gandhi, the United Nations declared Oct. 2 as an "International Day of Non-Violence." There are too many wars, religious conflicts, homicides and massacres of animal species being incessantly perpetrated in this violent and inimical world.
Gandhi merits recognition for his visionary leadership in reference to promoting pacifism and reverence for the lives of all sentient beings. Hopefully, his message will finally resonate before it's too late.
