Tales Tombstones Tell moves to Glen Oak Cemetery

Tales Tombstones Tell, the popular cemetery walk presented by the West Chicago City Museum, will celebrate its 27th year with a new venue and a new time.

Tales is moving to Glen Oak Cemetery, on Arbor Avenue between National Street and Hawthorne Lane in West Chicago, and will introduce new histories and stories of residents who called West Chicago home.

This year's program will start at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, with tours leaving every 15 minutes until 2:30 p.m. Tours last roughly 45 minutes, and no reservations are necessary.

Those waiting in line to start their tours will be entertained with period music by Roger Kotecki. If the weather is inclement, the program will be canceled.

Costumed interpreters will tell the stories of some of the families who have helped to shape the West Chicago community. The lives of Harlow Belding, Zelda DeTray Dunbar, Herman and Louisa Klug, Bertha and Fred Kruse, Charles Reed, William Treudt, and Charles Ward will be shared with attendees.

Photographs from the museum's large local history collection also will be on display during the afternoon event. The program is appropriate for families.

Parking will be available at any of the Reed-Keppler Park parking lots off Arbor Avenue, and a shuttle will run from West Chicago Park District's Turtle Splash Parking lot at 129 W. National Street to the cemetery.

Although the program is free, donations are appreciated. For more information, call the museum at (630) 231-3376 or visit museum@westchicago.org.
