Motorola Solutions acquires Utah company

Motorola Solutions has acquired Salt Lake City, Utah-based Spillman Technologies, a privately held provider of law enforcement and public safety software.

Chicago-based Motorola Solutions, which has offices in Schaumburg, said Monday the acquisition is expected to close later this year. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"The acquisition does not impact employees locally in Schaumburg. Spillman employees will continue to be based in Salt Lake City. Business as usual for both companies," said Motorola Solutions spokesman Steve Gorecki.

Spillman, founded in 1982, provides public safety software to more than 1,700 agencies nationwide. It also offers software solutions and cloud-based tools for computer-aided dispatch, records management systems, jail management, mobile data, data sharing, field reporting, mapping and geographic information systems.

The acquisition is part of Motorola's strategy to expand its software portfolio for public safety customers. Spillman focuses on small- and medium-sized public safety agencies, while Motorola Solutions' works with larger public safety agencies, Motorola Solutions said in a statement.

The acquisition "will expand Motorola Solutions' software capabilities and complement our command center offerings to meet the needs of a broader customer base," said Bruce Brda, executive vice president of products and services at Motorola Solutions.
