Schaumburg Boomers close season with win
Gunnar Kines held visiting Windy City hitless through 7⅔ innings to lead the Schaumburg Boomers to a 6-1 victory Sunday in the season finale.
Kines surrendered a one-out walk in the first inning before retiring 19 straight ThunderBolts hitters. The Boomers bats provided offensive support, scoring 3 runs in the third on an Argenis Aldazoro bases-loaded triple to make it 3-0. Mike McClellan singled home Aldazoro in the fifth to make it 4-0 and Kenny Towns doubled home McClellan to give Schaumburg a 5-run lead.
Blair Beck broke up the no-hitter with a home run to left-center with two outs in the eighth. The Boomers answered with one in the bottom half, and Dexter Price worked a perfect ninth to conclude the Boomers season with a win.
Kines threw 8 innings, allowing just the 1 hit, walking one and striking out seven, making him the second pitcher in Boomers history with 100 strikeouts or more in a season. Jordan Dean doubled in the second inning to set the Schaumburg single-season record for doubles with 26.
