Spring Grove couple killed in crash near McHenry

Two Spring Grove residents were killed Saturday night in a crash near McHenry, officials said.

John S. Korkowski, 67, was driving north on South Solon Road when his vehicle went off the right side of the road just north of Ringwood Road in unincorporated McHenry County, according to a news release from McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski. When the vehicle re-entered the roadway, it skidded sideways into the southbound lane and was struck by a second vehicle.

Korkowski and his wife, 59-year-old Claire D. Korkowski, who was a passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene just after 10:30 p.m., Majewski said. Autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday.

The crash is being investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff's Police Accident Investigation Unit.
