Former France captain Alou Diarra joins Nancy

PARIS (AP) - Former France midfielder Alou Diarra has joined Nancy after terminating his contract with English club Charlton.

The 35-year-old Diarra, who asked permission to leave Charlton after the club was demoted to England's third division, has made 44 appearances with France and captained the team at the 2010 World Cup.

Diarra, who won the French league title with Lyon in 2007 and with Bordeaux two years later, also played for Le Havre, Bastia, Lens, Marseille and Rennes in the French league. The much-traveled player also had stints at Bayern Munich and West Ham.

Diarra will sign a one-year deal with Nancy, which won the second division last season but is winless in three matches in the top league this season.
