West Suburban Symphony tickets now on sale
Season tickets are now on sale for the West Suburban Symphony's October 2016 to June 2017 concert series in Hinsdale and Naperville.
"We're offering our audiences exciting music, both familiar and new, written from the Baroque era through 2016 by more than 20 composers," symphony President Richard Lukes said.
"And we're proudly celebrating the 70th anniversary of our founding in La Grange Park by the former West Suburban YMCA."
The orchestra opens its season at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at Hinsdale Central High School with Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade" symphonic poem and other music inspired by fantasy.
Next is the orchestra's annual holiday concert featuring music from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballet and from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, also at Hinsdale Central.
The orchestra presents Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, known for its "Ode to Joy" finale, with chorus and vocal soloists at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at Hinsdale Central. The group performs a program that includes Beethoven's Symphony No. 2 and the premiere of Elysian, a 2016 composition by Chicagoan Elijah Smith, at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Union Church of Hinsdale.
More music by Tchaikovsky is in store for the orchestra's performance at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Hinsdale Central - his Symphony No. 3 and dance movements from his Eugene Onegin opera.
The orchestra and its chorus perform familiar music from movies from 1920 to today, including compositions by John Williams, at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville.
Season tickets are on sale through Saturday, Oct. 15, for $114 for all six concerts, $102 for seniors 65 and older. Individual concert tickets, also now on sale, are $24, $22 for seniors, $5 for teens, and free for children 12 and younger. Quantity discounts are available for tickets purchased in advance through June 24.
