Randhurst Village presents first street fest

Randhurst Village, at the intersection of Rand and Elmhurst roads in Mount Prospect, is bringing together local community groups, stores and restaurants, as well as special entertainment and presentations, for its first Randhurst Village Street Fest event from noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.

This free event will take place on Randhurst Village Drive beginning at Center Court, near Charming Charlie, and ending in front of AMC Randhurst theaters. This section of the Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic during the event. Guests are invited to bring their own chairs to enjoy the live performances.

The fun begins at noon when the Daily Herald's Matt Avery presents classic cars with their original owners. Avery, who weekly tells the stories of cars and their owners, will interview owners and showcase their autos.

From 3-5 p.m., rock out with this year's Street Fest headliner Modern Day Romeos. The Top 40 cover band and local fan favorite's setlist includes Motown classics, metal anthems, classic rock treasures, '80s favorites, '90s gems, and the top hits of the 2000s with their own special style and twist.

The day will be filled with dance and musical performances by local community groups and young rising stars throughout the day. Performers include The Mount Prospect Park District's Dance Ensembles, Trinity Irish Dancers, Forest View Elementary Choirs, Holmes Junior High School, and a group of finalists from the Daily Herald's Suburban Chicago's Got Talent contest.

Food tastings and demonstrations will be offered by Randhurst Village restaurants including: BlackFinn Ameripub, Buffalo Wild Wings, e+o food and drink, Jersey Mike's Subs, Nothing Bundt Cakes and Outback Steakhouse. Shop or experience participating retail stores include Bed, Bath and Beyond, Charming Charlie, Costco, Maurices, Orange Theory Fitness and PetSmart.

A variety of nonprofit and civic organizations will be on-site providing information on their unique services and offering interactive activities for the whole family. These groups provide a variety of support and education for the needs of the local community including, food for needy families, cancer and grief support, community care and education.

Organizations include: Lemons of Love, Lutheran Charities K-9 Comfort Dogs and KARE K-9 Military Dogs, MISS Foundation, Mount Prospect Fire Department, Mount Prospect Public Library, Mount Prospect Park District, Mount Prospect Police Department, River Trails Park District and The Kids Pantry.

Rounding out the day's festivities will be face painting, balloon art, magic tricks and juggling, plus inflatables for the kids and yard games for the adults.
