ElderCARE receives over $19,000 from Lake County CDBG

Commissioner Mary Ross Cunningham presented ElderCARE with a check for more than $19,000 from the Lake County Community Development Block Grant.

CDBG supports ElderCARE by providing free medical transportation for home bound Lake County residents. Receiving the check coincides with ElderCARE's serving its 3,000th care receiver since 1998.

In 2015, 145 ElderCARE volunteers served almost 200 older adults below the poverty line. This included 1,102 round trip transportation requests and 4,888 volunteer hours.

"Volunteers are the backbone of our services," said Jill Grubbs, an 18-year veteran staffer with ElderCARE.

ElderCARE is always seeking new volunteers and new care receivers. The next volunteer training is scheduled for Sept. 27 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Libertyville. All those interested can contact ElderCARE at (847) 406-4683 or info@eldercarelakecounty.org.

As ElderCARE celebrates its support from CDBG and its 3,000th elder rider, it's also looking forward to its annual fundraiser, the "Rides for Elders" Classic Car Show, which will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 17 at the corner of West and Grand in Waukegan. There will be silent auctions, music, food and cars.
