Consumers Credit Union Hosts On-Site Career Fair

Gurnee, IL, August 30, 2016: Consumers Credit Union (CCU; $930 Million, Waukegan, IL) recently hosted a highly-successful career fair at the CCU Administration Center in Gurnee. More than 100 candidates attended the four-hour event on Thursday, August 4th. Every applicant had an opportunity for a face-to-face interview with a hiring manager. CCU had the entire Human Resources team on hand during the Career Fair, along with 26 management-level employees, including CEO Sean Rathjen and the Vice-Presidents of virtually every department.

"CCU's Career Fair was truly quite unique when compared to typical job fairs," according to Karen Evans, Director of Human Resources for the Member-owned credit union. "The key difference was giving candidates the ability to learn specifics about available positions directly from the hiring manager for each department with an opening. Feedback on this was outstanding, primarily because applicants had a chance to present themselves in person rather than having their resume screened by HR."

CEO Sean Rathjen personally greeted many of the applicants, providing another important difference from job fairs hosted by other companies. Following registration, applicants were provided computers to complete an Online application and/or the chance to go directly to an interview. The Career Fair also included tours of CCU's administration center, providing applicants an opportunity to check out the facilities, meet CCU employees and get a feel for the work culture. Additionally, refreshments and "goodie bags" were distributed to everyone who attended.

"Those attending really appreciated the personal approach of the event," continued Evans. "We promoted the Career Fair with signage at our larger locations, supported by email messages to CCU Members, social media posts and advertising with our Online application partner. This was a great example of how today's technology coupled with an old-fashioned, face-to-face approach to generate great results. As of last week, we've extended offers to approximately 15% of those who attended."
