Girls volleyball: Vernon Hills rallies past Grayslake North
Sophomore Kayla Caudle pounded 6 kills, seniors Grace Hutson and Sophia Lehocky added five apiece, and Vernon Hills' girls volleyball team rallied past visiting Grayslake North 20-25, 25-21, 25-22 in its season opener Wednesday night.
Aleen Lim had 25 digs, and Caralynn Orbell dished out 25 assists for the Cougars.
Libertyville d. Lakes: The visiting Wildcats came back to win a thrilling nonconference match 22-25, 25-20, 25-23.
Libertyville (2-0) - which defeated New Trier 20-25, 27-25, 26-24 Tuesday night - was paced by Anna Lillydahl's 16 assists and 3 kills. Morgan O'Brien had 16 digs and 4 aces to help the Wildcats erase a 7-point deficit late to win the third set.
Anna Valente had 6 kills for Libertyville, while Haley Stevenson and Caroline Frea had four apiece.
Lakes was led on attack by Kaylee Lebron (8 kills), Erica Grant (7 kills), Keelan Bell (6 kills), McKenna Lahr (4 kills) and Katie Billetdeaux (3 kills). Rachel Orpano lofted 27 assists for the Eagles. Lahr and Paige Bartlett had 14 and 13 digs, respectively. Orpano also contributed 10 digs, Grant tallied nine and Toyin Jackson chipped in seven.
