Boomers out-slugged by Grizzlies

The Schaumburg Boomers roped out 13 hits but could not hold an early advantage in a 9-6 loss to the Gateway Grizzlies in the middle game of a three-game set.

Schaumburg tallied 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning, sending nine men to the plate and taking advantage of 2 walks and a pair of Gateway errors. Gateway struck for 3 runs in the third and opened a 6-4 edge with 3 runs in the fourth. Paul Kronenfeld notched an RBI-single in the fourth and tied the game with a 2-out, 2-strike RBI-single in the sixth. Gateway's Ben Waldrip homered in the seventh to break the tie and the visitors added two in the ninth. The Boomers brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth but a lineout ended the game.

Brett Mabry suffered the loss, working 6⅔ innings. Kronenfeld and Jordan Dean each tallied 3 hits in the defeat. Mikal Hill added a pair of hits.

The Boomers (32-40) wrap the series on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
