Free museum admission

Free admission to the Lake County Discovery Museum at the Lakewood Forest Preserve on Route 176 west of Fairfield Road, near Wauconda, is offered through August. After 40 years at Lakewood, the museum will close Sept. 1, pack its vast collections and relocate to the forest district headquarters on Winchester Road in Libertyville, with reopening anticipated in late 2017. Seventy percent discounts are offered at the gift store. The new home will have a more central location accessible by public transportation; a purpose built collections care facility; public research center and library; new and expanded exhibitions and expanded special exhibition galleries, according to the district.
