Officer accused of shooting detective returned to Indiana
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indianapolis police officer arrested in Ohio after he allegedly shot a fellow officer is back in Indiana, where he faces an attempted murder charge.
Officer Adrian Aurs was returned Tuesday to Indiana after waiving extradition during a court hearing in Cincinnati.
The 42-year-old is scheduled for a Thursday initial hearing on an attempted murder charge in last Friday's shooting.
Authorities say Aurs shot an Indianapolis police detective as that officer was interviewing Aurs' estranged wife about a domestic violence incident. The detective suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his right side and arm.
Aurs allegedly fled his wife's Indianapolis apartment in his truck after the shooting. Cincinnati police arrested the 17-year department veteran early Saturday.
Aurs' defense attorney, James Voyles, did not immediately return a message left Wednesday morning seeking comment.
