Lions Club to host first blueberry festival

The Mount Prospect Lions Club is holding its first blueberry festival - featuring a pie-eating contest - this Sunday, Aug. 7, as part of its weekly farmers market downtown near Northwest Highway and Main Street.

All entrants need to be present by 9 a.m. to register. There will be three heats - at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon. The winner will receive a gift basket from Chef Kaz, Signature Sauces.

At 1 p.m., the Mount Prospect Fire Department will be competing against the Mount Prospect Police Department for bragging rights as the pie-eating kings of the village.

The Lions will be collecting a suggested donation of $1, with all proceeds and donations going to support The Mount Prospect Lions Club efforts to assist families in coping with the special needs of blind and hearing-impaired children.
