Warrenville ready to celebrate Summer Daze
The streets of downtown Warrenville will come alive early next month with fun, food and music.
The 39th annual Summer Daze festival offers a car show, live bands, carnival rides, business and food booths, and a beer tent from 5 to 11:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, and from noon to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, near the intersection of Butterfield and Batavia roads. Admission is free.
Owners of classics, hot rods or any other kind of cool car are invited to display their rides at the Car Show from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 6. Registration is $15 and begins at 8 a.m. the day of the show, which offers 23 classes and three awards for each. Last year more than 100 cars were displayed. Awards are announced at 3:30 p.m.
Hungry visitors have a variety of food booths to choose from. Vendors serve sandwiches, burgers, brats, wraps, desserts and more from 5 to 11 p.m. Aug. 5 and noon to 11 p.m. Aug. 6.
Kids of all ages find fun and excitement on carnival rides from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 5 and noon to 9 p.m. Aug. 6. Business booths are open 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 5 and noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 6 to inform people of their products and services and distribute free samples.
Summer Daze organizers also present a range of music during both days of the event.
On Aug. 5, the Flat Cats from Chicago play vintage and modern music, from timeless standards to the hottest swinging jazz and contemporary classics, from 6 to 7 p.m.
The Gina Glocksen Band takes the stage from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Glocksen is best known as the ninth-place finalist of the sixth season of the megahit television show "American Idol." Although Glocksen has often been referred to as the "rocker chick," her musical influences and abilities range far beyond the realm of rock.
ARRA closes out Aug. 5 with a performance from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. One of the best and largest drawing classic rock cover bands in the Chicago area, ARRA performs the biggest hits by the biggest bands of all time.
On Aug. 6, local performers display their talents. Battle of the Bands, a contest for bands whose members are between the ages of 12 and 21, starts at 1 p.m., followed by Warrenville's Got Talent at 3:15 p.m.
Jim Gill gives an interactive performance for children and adults from 4 to 5 p.m. A musician and author, Gill leads children and parents in a singalong and clap-along.
Second Hand Soul Band performs Motown, soul, and rock & roll from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Between the funky hits of the '70s, the one-hit wonders, the disco and the soulful songs of that era, audience members will be moved to dance and sing along.
Slamabama blends Sugarland and Van Halen from 7:30 to 9 p.m. From the first note to the last encore, the energy and intensity of Slamabama will have the audience's undivided attention.
Bad Medicine performs a Bon Jovi tribute from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. The band's song repertoire covers all of the songs made popular by Bon Jovi, as well as non-Jovi songs by artists such as Poison, Guns 'n Roses, Motley Crue, and more.
