Sox's Anderson and Eaton have more in common than speed
Tim Anderson and Adam Eaton have been a nice pairing at the top of the White Sox order this month, but the South Siders' 1-2 hitters have a lot more in common than just their speed. Both are getting adjusted to their newfound fatherhood while also being the motor for the Sox lineup.
Anderson's fiancée, Bria, gave birth to his first child, Peyton Kensleigh, in March during spring training. Anderson says his daughter has been his motivation and a big help with his transition and adjustment to the big leagues.
"(My daughter) has been my main focus, she's keeping me going," Anderson said. "No matter what kind of game I have, she gets my mind off the game. I don't have to carry it home with me, which is nice."
Anderson's ability to balance his home life and play well hasn't gone unnoticed by his teammates.
"He's handling it pretty well," Eaton said. "Some guys need help having their first (child), not getting much sleep and being a family man part of the day, then coming in here and not bringing your family troubles is hard in the big leagues.
"For him to take on all that and be successful like he has, it really says a lot about his character and how he goes about his business."
Eaton understands just what Anderson is going through. The mere mention of his son's name brings a big smile to his face. He and his wife, Katie, also welcomed their first child, Brayden, into the world back in April.
Going on a long road trip with a new baby at home isn't ideal, but Eaton knows it comes with the job.
"It's difficult, man. You want to get back to playing baseball, but you definitely want to get back to your wife and your kids and take care of them," Eaton said. "Your heart is with your child, though, because you want to be with them and see their firsts, but at the same time you have a job to do."
Since Anderson was called up from Triple-A Charlotte on June 10 (28 games), the duo is hitting a combined .289 batting average with 22 extra base hits (6 homers), 20 RBI and 38 runs scored.
Eaton has found comfort sliding into the second spot in the Sox order and really likes what Anderson brings to the table.
"He's been setting the table for us. He's getting on base and making it easy for the guys behind him," Eaton said. He's done a heck of a job, hitting homers and playing good defense. He's definitely been a good addition for us."
