Port Barrington man dies after Fox River boat crash

A 67-year-old Port Barrington man whose boat crashed into a pier on the Fox River last week has died, officials said Monday.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was thrown into the water about 3 p.m. Friday after his boat hit a concrete pier and post bow-first in Trout Valley, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's office.

After pulling him out of the water, an off-duty Mount Prospect firefighter and another bystander performed CPR on the man until authorities arrived, Cary fire officials said.

He was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where he was pronounced dead, McHenry County Sheriff's officials said. He was the only occupant of the boat at the time of the crash.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor, officials said, and foul play is not suspected. The McHenry County Sheriff and Lake County Coroner are investigating.
