Police: 3 teens hurt in Island Lake crash
Three teenagers were taken to the hospital Monday after a crash involving two cars, an SUV and a dump truck in Island Lake, authorities said.
The teens suffered minor injuries and were taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Wauconda Fire District Lt. Devin Mueller said.
Two of the injured teens - both girls - were drivers of their vehicles, while the third, a boy, was a passenger in one of the cars, Mueller said.
A fourth person was evaluated at the scene but refused further medical attention.
Mueller said it appears a six-wheeled dump truck struck a passenger car, which was pushed into another car that tapped an SUV in the chain reaction crash.
Island Lake Sgt. Nick Deuter said police are investigating the cause of the crash and don't yet know exactly how it occurred. Other than the dump truck, he said, a Honda Accord, a Toyota Corolla and a Chevy Equinox were involved.
Police directed traffic on 176 for a time as the crash was being cleaned up, but Deuter said the road was never completely shut down.
