Schaumburg Boomers drop series finale, 8-2, to Traverse City
On a rainy Thursday night, The Schaumburg Boomers lost the series finale, 8-2, to the Traverse City Beach Bums.
The Beach Bums scored an unearned run in the first but the Boomers answered on a Mark Nelson RBI single in the bottom of the frame to make it 1-1. The teams exchanged runs again in the second with Schaumburg drawing even on a bases-loaded hit by pitch from Jordan Dean.
Starter Gunnar Kines gave up the game winning run in the fifth and Traverse City touched up the Boomers bullpen for 5 runs in the eighth.
Kines suffered the loss despite throwing 6⅔ strong innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits and striking out five.
The Boomers head out on the road Friday to face the Washington Wild Things with All-Star Kagen Hopkins (3-1, 1.90).
