Oswego man charged again with threatening tollway chairman
An Oswego man who already has served two jail terms for threatening the life of Illinois State Toll Highway Authority Board Chairman Robert Schillerstrom could be headed for a third.
DuPage County prosecutors on Thursday amended charges against James P. Conroy, 57, of the 500 block Chestnut Drive, related to several accusations stemming from the night of June 10.
At the time of the latest accusations, Conroy was three months into a two-year probationary sentence for making threatening calls to Schillerstrom's home in December 2015.
According to the latest indictment, Conroy attempted to take a taxi June 10 to Schillerstrom's Naperville residence and “made numerous telephone calls to the Naperville Police Department in which he threatened to kill Robert Schillerstrom and requested Robert Schillerstrom be killed.”
If convicted of violating his probation and the latest stalking and telephone harassment charges, prosecutors said Conroy faces up to three years in prison.
Conroy was sentenced in March to 180 days in the DuPage County jail, 24 months of probation and counseling. DuPage Judge George J. Bakalis also ordered Conroy to have no contact with Schillerstrom and his family.
Authorities said Conroy has a long history of harassing Schillerstrom.
He was convicted in March of calling Schillerstrom's home at 5:53 p.m. Dec. 1, 2015, from a Naperville hotel.
Conroy left a message saying he would kill Schillerstrom if he had the opportunity. At 7 p.m. that same night, Conroy called the Naperville Police Department and said he was planning to shoot Schillerstrom at the tollway building, according to prosecutors.
Naperville police said they recognized Conroy's voice because of past calls he made to Schillerstrom.
As recently as 2012, Conroy served six months in jail for contacting the former DuPage County Board chairman after twice being ordered not to contact Schillerstrom or his family in 2011.
