Boomers can't complete comeback against Slammers
The Schaumburg Boomers fell one run short of a comeback as they dropped an Independence Day matinee to Joliet 6-5.
The Slammers scored first on an RBI single in the third. James Keller answered in the bottom of the frame with his first professional home run, a solo shot to left.
Two innings later, Jordan Dean broke the tie with a solo home run to left, his first long ball of the year. Joliet blew it open in the sixth with a 5-run inning, highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Rock Shoulders. Dean singled home a run in the eighth and the Boomers got the winning run on base in the ninth but could muster only one run.
Lars Liguori suffered the loss as he threw 6 innings allowing 6 runs on 8 hits.
