New Wheeling slogan 'revolves' around village communities
Wheeling officials hope their new town slogan will help keep the village moving forward with a focus on the many different organizations and stakeholders in the community.
The new slogan, "Revolving around community," will replace Wheeling's previous decades-old motto, "A community of choice."
Village Manager Jon Sfondilis said while eight potential slogans were considered by village trustees, "it was certainly unanimous in that everyone agreed this one was the best fit."
The slogan plays on the village's name and its wheel logo, and is inclusive to all community groups, Sfondilis said.
"It doesn't identify an individual sector of the village, it doesn't play more toward residents or businesses," he added. "It applies to everyone, whether you live, work or dine here."
Village trustees Monday picked the slogan from among 134 entries submitted online and in-person by residents and business owners.
After trustees formally adopt the new slogan at their July 18 meeting, it will be phased into signage and publications. Wheeling also hopes to launch a new website, which is set to include the new slogan, in July.
Sfondilis doesn't expect changing the slogan to come at any extra cost to the village. The slogan is on entrance signs to the village, but those are scheduled to be replaced soon.
As for who gets the credit for coming up with the slogan, Wheeling Administrative Assistant Martin Seay says it was submitted anonymously.
Installing a new slogan was part of Wheeling's 2015-2016 strategic plan.
