Artists from near and far show work at Cantigny Fine Art Festival
Artists from as far away as Philadelphia and New Mexico joined peers from across DuPage County this weekend to exhibit and sell their work during Cantigny Park's "Art in Bloom" Fine Art Festival.
Various forms of media were represented during the festival, such as ceramics, photography, acrylic and watercolor paintings, and sculptures.
Seventy-two artists were picked to have a booth by a jury process, and then were judged on their colors, style, and diversity. Judging also took place at the fair, with the artists each vying for the lucrative "Best in Show" title.
"The artists are judged based on quality of work, impact and appeal, technique and booth presentation, plus whatever else they bring to the table," show organizer Erin Melloy said.
To prepare for the competition - and to sell as many pieces as they can - artists worked long hours.
Festivalgoers took the opportunity to explore the parks and gardens of Cantigny. Budding artists also made hands molds out of wax.
Art wasn't the only weekend activity happening at Cantigny, however. Classical Blast and Guitarra Azul provided the musical entertainment. In addition, a Father's Day brunch was held on Sunday in the Red Oak Room.
A new attraction at the festival this year were food trucks, selling cupcakes, hot dogs, Cajun food, Mexican food, and sandwiches.
