Teens arrested after man fired at in Elgin
Two teenagers were arrested Tuesday in Elgin after a man reported being shot at following an altercation.
Elgin police responded just after noon Tuesday to a call in the 500 block of Columbia Avenue and talked to the victim, who was unharmed and said he could identify the person who shot at him, police said in a news release.
The shooter was one of two individuals with whom the victim had a verbal altercation, the victim told police. The victim pointed officers to a house on the same block where he said the two individuals were last seen. Officers went to the house and found a parked car with damage from gunfire, Cmdr. Colin Fleury said.
The homeowners gave consent to officers to enter the residence. Police found a 17-year-old who fit the shooter's description hiding inside. A 16-year-old in the home was also arrested.
A search warrant resulted in the seizure of two firearms, ammunition and other evidence linking the juveniles to the shooting.
Police said the 17-year-old was charged with five felonies: aggravated discharge of a firearm, three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and one count of possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owners Identification card.
The 16-year-old was charged with two felonies: possession of a Firearm without a FOID card and possession of firearm ammunition without a FOID card.
Both juveniles were transported to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center, police said.
