Schaumburg Seeks Public Input During Comprehensive Plan Update

The Village of Schaumburg is beginning a process to update its comprehensive plan, a year-long initiative that will provide the village with a new plan intended to guide future planning and development in Schaumburg.

As part of the project, the public is invited to attend the first comprehensive plan workshop that will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 21 at the Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Ct. The workshop will allow participants the opportunity to share feedback via survey and discuss what they view as the primary strengths about Schaumburg and what they view as issues or concerns.

The current comprehensive plan was last updated in 1996 and, since that time, significant development and redevelopment has occurred in the village. The village is working together with Houseal Lavigne and Associates to review the policies and directives in the current plan; perform community outreach; and create the new vision, goals and objectives that will comprise the new plan.

A cornerstone of the project will be community outreach and obtaining citizen participation. The outreach process will include both traditional (face-to-face) and web-based activities to garner the broadest levels of participation.

"Throughout the year, the village will perform various forms of community outreach to obtain citizen input and feedback on future planning in Schaumburg," said Community Development Director Julie Fitzgerald. "The village encourages public participation throughout the process that will help shape the guidelines to be included in the new comprehensive plan."

The village will be sharing opportunities for participation this summer through a variety of communication channels including in the local media, on the village's website and on the village's social media platforms, Facebook and Twitter.

Information about the comprehensive plan can be found on the website at http://www.hlplanning.com/portals/schaumburg.
