Woodman's Food Market hopes to open in Buffalo Grove

Woodman's Food Market announced plans on Wednesday to anchor a new 25-acre commercial development in Buffalo Grove. The shopping center, which would be built at the western corner of Deerfield Parkway and Milwaukee Avenue, is a joint project with Shorewood Development Group, according to a news release. The owner of a new Mount Prospect store that caters to adults who like to dress as babies hopes plain white screening in business' window will help pacify members of the community upset by its presence. John-Michael Williams said he expected the public criticism, which peaked Tuesday when about 50 residents appeared before the village board to object to his Tykables store, but believes it will die down once it's clear the business won't be a disruptive element. After years stuck in neutral, a former industrial site abutting Gate 4 at the Great Lakes Naval Station in North Chicago is slated for big plans to include a national museum honoring enlisted sailors. The proposed $40 million National Museum of the American Sailor is intended as an anchor for what is envisioned by the city as a hospitality and entertainment district at the northwest corner of Sheridan Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Westmont woman found not guilty of attempted murder of sergeant

A Westmont woman charged with firing her husband's handgun at a police officer who responded to her 911 call has been cleared of all charges. DuPage County Judge Robert Miller found Heidi Till, 49, not guilty of three counts of attempted first-degree murder and not guilty by reason of insanity on three charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm. No one hurt in Elgin fire

No one was injured in an Elgin apartment fire that broke out on Wednesday evening. The Elgin Fire Department responded to 717 W. Highland at 6:35 p.m. and found smoke coming from an apartment on the fourth floor, according to a news release. The cause of the fire was determined to be unattended cooking on a stove using grease.
