No one injured in Elgin apartment fire

No one was injured in an Elgin apartment fire that broke out on Wednesday evening.

The Elgin Fire Department responded to 717 W. Highland at 6:35 p.m. and found smoke coming from an apartment on the fourth floor, according to a news release.

The fire was quickly extinguished with the help of the sprinkler system in the apartment.

The cause of the fire was determined to be unattended cooking on a stove using grease, according to the news release.

Damages were estimated at $5,000.
