Rolling Meadows graduate with MS walks to receive diploma

Being awarded his high school diploma wasn't the dream Rolling Meadows High School senior Fernando Rodriguez set out to achieve yesterday. Standing up and walking in front of his family and classmates to accept it was. "I felt like I was walking on air," said Fernando, who uses a wheelchair and was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at age 11. Full story.

Big graduation weekend

High schools throughout the suburbs celebrated the Class of 2016 during graduation ceremonies this weekend. Among them were Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, Rolling Meadows, Prospect, Fremd, Hersey, Schaumburg, Palatine, Conant, Elgin Academy, Wheaton Academy, Mooseheart and Glenbard East high schools. Revered Wheaton College coach dies at 96

LeRoy Pfund was a professional baseball player for years, but his legacy as a coach and community servant is rooted in the suburbs. Pfund, a former Brooklyn Dodger who later became a Wheaton College baseball and basketball coach, died Thursday. The Carol Stream resident was 96. Full story.

Barrington Hills police officer, Lake in the Hills man injured in crash

A Lake in the Hills man and a Barrington Hills police officer were seriously injured early yesterday morning in a two-vehicle crash involving a squad car, officials said. After being cut from their vehicles, both drivers were taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, authorities said. Full story.

Maddon says he didn't 'outmanage' Chip Hale

It might have seemed that Cubs manager Joe Maddon outmanaged Arizona counterpart Chip Hale in Saturday's strategy-filled game, but Maddon said yesterday he doesn't see it that way. Maddon went into active-manager role in the eighth inning of Saturday's 5-3 victory, using three relief pitchers and getting his wish not to face dangerous D-backs hitter Jake Lamb.
