Schaumburg announces Prairie Arts Festival Award winners

The Village of Schaumburg recently held its 29th annual Prairie Arts Festival over Memorial Day weekend and announced the award winners of the festival.

This year's winners include:

• First place: Steven Shaikh, Fort Wayne, Indiana, jewelry

• Second place: Layl McDill, Minneapolis, Minnesota, sculpture

• Third place: Dwight Lohman, Grayslake, photography

• Merit Awards: Dawn Donati, Westchester, glass; Charlotte Fung Miller, Mukwonago, Wisconsin, painting; Bill Kruser and Cindy Kuffel, Arlington Heights, photography; Scott Maki, Escanaba, Wisconsin, drawing; Rezgar Mamandi, Lombard, pottery; Margaret Michel, Park Ridge, painting; Paulina Pawelczyk-Metzger, Wheeling, pottery; and William Waite, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, woodworking

Held every year on the grounds of the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, the Prairie Arts Festival featured the work of more than 100 juried fine artists from Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin.

In addition to the display of digital, drawing, fiber, furniture, glass, graphics, jewelry, leather, mixed media 2D, mixed media 3-D, painting (including watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel), paper, photography, pottery, printmaking, sculpture, and woodworking, all crafted by the artist, the Prairie Arts Festival also featured live performances in three different areas on the festival grounds, children's art activities coordinated by the Schaumburg Park District, and refreshments provided by food trucks and vendors.
