Boomers sweep Florence

Another passed ball and a late crooked number propelled the Schaumburg Boomers to their fourth straight victory and a sweep of the Florence Freedom, 6-2 Thursday night.

The Boomers trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh when a passed ball allowed Ino Patron to tie it at 2. Jordan Dean, Paul Kronenfeld and Mark Nelson followed with 3 RBI singles in 4 at-bats to give the Boomers a 5-2 lead. Schaumburg added another run on a ground ball from Shawn Payne that scored Patron.

The Boomers got strong pitching performances from their starter and bullpen again as Gunnar Kines threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball. Jake Joyce, Ken Knudsen and Evan Boyd each threw an inning and struck out 4 combined. The victory secured the first series sweep of the season for Schaumburg. Richard Seigel's two-out double in the ninth snapped a streak of 17 consecutive batters retired for Boyd.

The Boomers enter the final third of their nine-game home stand Friday night against the River City Rascals.
