Stevenson officials propose $117.5 million budget
Stevenson High School officials have unveiled a $117.5 million budget for the 2017 fiscal year, a slight spending increase from the current year.
The budget includes money for heating and air conditioning upgrades, parking lot repairs, lighting work and bathroom improvements, among other projects at the large Lincolnshire campus.
The new fiscal year begins July 1.
Projected spending is up about 2.5 percent from the current year's $114.6 million budget. Spending primarily is rising because of an anticipated increase in loan payments, spokesman Jim Conrey said.
To cover expenses, officials expect to collect about $120.6 million in property taxes, fees and other revenue during the next year. That's up about 2 percent from the $118.2 million revenue projection in the current budget. Revenues are expected to increase because of proceeds from loans, Conrey said.
The construction and other physical improvements planned for the year will be completed this summer.
One of the most visible projects will be repaving parking lot B, the main lot in front of the school. Stevenson Drive - the road that leads to the campus from Route 22 - will be resurfaced, too. Those projects will cost about $1.3 million, Conrey said.
Elsewhere, construction crews will be at work in the school's west building. Bathrooms and offices in the building will be renovated.
"Some of the restrooms and offices haven't been touched in 30 years," Conrey said.
Additionally, LED lighting upgrades are planned in the west building, along with some fire-sprinkler work.
All the west building projects will cost about $1.1 million.
The school board's finance committee discussed the budget Monday night. The full board will vote on the spending plan July 18.
