Local student shines, thanks the community

Aaron Volk, son of Ron Volk and Lisa O'Leary-Volk, will graduate on Sunday, May 22, from Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill.

The 2012 Geneva High graduate earned several local scholarships for his continuing education including: Wheeler Trust Scholarship, Barbara Day Lutheran School Scholarship, St. Peter Catholic Church Scholarship, and EMCOR Academic Scholarship.

Aaron will graduate with a bachelor's degree in pre-medicine and Spanish and a minor in biochemistry. He will continue his education at Loyola University-Chicago, pursuing a master's degree in infectious disease and immunology. His ultimate goal is to attend medical school and become a trauma surgeon. Aaron is a local student who has used his awards well and he wanted to let the community know how grateful he is for the scholarships he was awarded and the support he was given by the faculty at Geneva High School.

Aaron was nominated and selected, along with five other students from Augustana's graduating class of 2016, to be featured on this week's Augustana homepage article "More Than I Imagined." Read more at www.augustana.edu.
