Bartlett house fire injures two, leaves $225,000 in damages
Two people were injured Tuesday night in a Bartlett house fire that left $225,000 in damages, officials said.
According to the Bartlett Fire Protection District, firefighters arriving at the scene on the 200 block of Windsor Drive at 7:24 p.m. found "very heavy fire" coming the from the second floor front bedroom windows. The fire also had spread to the attic before firefighters arrived, officials said.
The two injured residents were taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Assistant Fire Chief Mike Figolah said both are believed to be in good condition.
While the cause remains under investigation, the fire started in the bedroom and appears to be an accident, Figolah said.
A small explosion occurred in the bedroom when one of the residents opened the door and fed oxygen to the fire, officials said. The resident who opened the bedroom door was knocked backward by the explosion.
The blaze caused an estimated $125,000 in property damage and $100,000 in content damage, according to the fire district.
