Softball: Carmel in control against Benet
Carmel Catholic's softball team pounded out 19 hits, including home runs by Emma Bartz and Jordan Swiatkowski, and the host Corsairs beat Benet Academy 22-1 in an East Suburban Catholic Conference game on Monday.
Lauren Caffarelli was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, and Amanda Elert went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI as well. Jen Giesey, Dani DeLozier and Karina Falkstrom each had 2 hits and 2 RBI for Carmel (14-7, 1-2). Bartz's homer was a solo shot, while Swiatkowski's came with a runner aboard.
Corsairs starting pitcher Claire Petrus threw a five-inning complete game, allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk, while striking out five.
Antioch 14, Round Lake 3: Deighton Butenschoen homered and doubled twice, finishing 3-for-4, as the visiting Sequoits won the North Suburban Prairie game in five innings.
Jacklyn Geraty was 4-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI for Antioch (17-6, 7-1), and Callie Tubbs went 2-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI. Sequoits pitchers Stephanie Bonaguidi (2 IP, win), Hannah Cook (2 IP) and Katie Sorenson threw a combined two-hitter.
Round Lake's Katie Bleim was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI.
Grant 15, Waukegan 0: Grant put up 10 runs in the first inning en route to the big victory.
Hannah McCall had 3 hits and was also the winning pitcher with 8 strikeouts, no walks and just 1 hit over five innings.
Wauconda 9, North Chicago 0: Winning pitcher Kelly Weller rolled up 10 strikeouts over 5 innings.
Willow Schanz had 3 hits and Alexandra Steffens had 2 hits for the Bulldogs.
Glenbrook North 6, Grayslake Central 2: Lexi Waigand had 2 hits for Grayslake Central.
Lake Zurich 13, Lake Forest 2: Amanda Guercio, Mackenzie Brinn and Abby Kokerst each had 3 hits and Lake Zurich pounded out a total of 19 hits.
Lakes 3, Vernon Hills 1: Rachel Becker had 3 hits and Ashley Horner had 2 hits for Lakes.
Winning pitcher Allyson Perdue gave up just 1 walk in seven innings pitched.
For Vernon Hills, Dana Meline and Delaney Bowen each had 2 hits.
