Herrington Inn & Spa mixes leisure, European feel

An interview with Cyndi Rohlf, director of sales & marketing at Herrington Inn & Spa.

Q: Tell us a little bit about Herrington Inn & Spa.

A: The Herrington is a 61-room hotel nestled along the Fox River waterfront located in downtown Geneva. The hotel is also home to Atwater's, our intimate restaurant, a private dining gazebo and a full-service spa. All the rooms have a fireplace, whirlpool baths and furnished balcony or patio. We are located in the historic district of Geneva, which makes all the boutique shops, galleries, and restaurants easily assessable. The Metra line is conveniently located downtown for any guests coming from the city for a short getaway. We were recently honored to receive the AAA four diamond award for the 22nd year in a row.

Q: Tell us about the history.

A: In 1835, James and Charity Herrington became Geneva's first settlers. Years after they settled a small dairy creamery was built on the site of the family's homestead. Butter and cheese were produced here and milk was stored in barrels that were kept cold in the rushing waters of the Fox River. The history is still present with our nightly turndown service of milk and cookies. Atwater's is also named after one of Geneva's first businessman, John Atwater.

Q: Describe the atmosphere.

A: As you enter the hotel, you are greeted by our friendly staff and luxurious lobby. Throughout the property you will find influences of different regions of Europe. Our broad art collection will catch your eye. The Herrington is used for various types of occasions. The courtyard has served as a ceremony backdrop for hundreds of couples who exchange their wedding vows.

Q: What attracts corporate clients?

A: Our 5,000 square feet of meeting space on the waterfront is a perfect place to spark creativity and a team building atmosphere in your meeting. The old world atmosphere and being on the Fox River is a refreshing change.

A: On property is our full-service day spa offers many options in massage, facial, or body treatments for ultimate relaxation.
