Body of missing northwestern Indiana woman found in Gary

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say the body of a woman who had disappeared with her infant daughter days earlier has been found in an abandoned home in Gary.

The Lake County Coroner's Office said Friday that 22-year-old Diamond Lewis of Merrillville was strangled to death. It says her body was discovered Thursday night.

Merrillville police say 2-month-old Morgan Williams was found safe Tuesday in Gary and placed with Child Protective Services. They haven't said where they found the child.

Merrillville police tell The (Munster) Times that two people taken into custody in connection with Lewis' death include a woman who went to Gary police with information on Lewis' possible whereabouts.

Lewis' father had reported her missing on Sunday after not talking to her since April 11.
